Electrical Engineer (Battery Management Systems)

Segway is searching for an Electrical Engineer with advanced electrical engineering experience and battery management system knowledge to architect, develop, introduce into production and manage energy management systems, energy management components as a purchased item and the energy management as a fully integrated system in an end product. This will include battery packs, power supplies and battery cells using different chemistries and applications to develop or advance products involving self-balancing technologies and personal electric transportation products.

Day-to-day responsibilities:
  • Researches, develops, designs, and directs the fabrication and testing of electrical and electromechanical components, equipment, controllers, devices and systems.
  • Directs fabrication activities to ensure manufacturing, construction, installation and operational testing conform to functional specifications, regulatory safety standards and user requirements.
  • Develops and specifies battery management systems for different chemistries and applications in the form of engineering specifications, detailed production designs, and fully proven working prototypes.
  • Specifies product performance verification methods (analysis, inspection, demonstration & test) and production functional test requirements for battery management systems, energy management components as a purchased items and the energy management as a fully integrated system in the end product.
  • Will identify, delegate and guide different areas of the project to groups of software, electrical hardware, mechanical and layout engineers and move the project to successful completion within budget and deadlines.
  • Collaborates with Engineers (internal and external) in areas involving power supplies, battery cells, interfacing the energy management system to the end product and system integrity testing.
  • Maintains company knowledge base in the areas of regulatory requirements and industry standards for energy management systems used in company products.

The ideal candidate will have a BS degree in electrical engineering and 10+ years of related experience in the development of battery charging and battery management systems. 3-5 years experience in algorithm development for large format battery management systems and electrical product design from concept through production; with specialized focus in electrical energy generation and transmission systems, electrical products, appliances, controllers and relays. Experience conducting electrical design verification against requirements based on worst case tolerance, signal integrity, stress calculations, temperature effect and safety and regulatory requirements. Proficient, hands on user of schematics tools like ORCAD, and simulation tools like PSpice, Matlab, MathCAD and MS Office tools. Familiarity with board layout tools is required.
Strong written and verbal communication and disciplined documentation skills.
