About Segway
Junior Electrical Engineer
The search is on for a Junior Electrical Engineer to design Embedded Circuits/Control Systems for its Human Transporters. This position will be based out of Segway’s Bedford, NH headquarters and work will be hands on in the product development center electronic laboratory.
Design both analog and digital circuitry to realize application-specific embedded control systems, switch-mode DC/DC and AC/DC converters, and brushless motor drives intended for medium volume production. Perform block-diagram and detailed circuit design, tolerance analysis, circuit simulation, prototype evaluation, performance testing, lifecycle testing, certification testing and evaluation, and component engineering. Support new product introduction and existing products by establishing design verification criteria, investigating anomalous behaviors, and verifying corrective actions. Establish and optimize hardware designs for performance to achieve program cost targets. Establish electrical and thermal design constraints for printed circuit board designers. Monitor progress at key milestones within design process to ensure constraints are adequately respected. Establish detailed manufacturing test requirements for electronic components and electronic assemblies. Create test methods that demonstrate circuit readiness for production release.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- BSEE or equivalent and 3+ years industrial or commercial electrical engineering experience designing embedded control systems or subsystems for motion control or robotic platforms.
- Experience designing electronic control circuitry, sensor characterization and conditioning circuits, analog and digital filter design, analog to digital conversion, and actuator control and feedback systems. Demonstrated working knowledge of modern semiconductor devices including microcontrollers, transceivers, memory, power management devices such as linear regulators, logic devices, discrete devices such as MOSFETs and BJTs. Strong analytical skills in addition to experience with computer-based analysis tools (e.g., SPICE, MatLab, Simulink, VisSim, etc.).
- Other beneficial knowledge includes: experience satisfying agency requirements (e.g. FCC, UL/CSA, CE, etc.); and working knowledge in thermal design would be beneficial.
- Other Required Skills: Design and operation of analog circuits for sensor signal conditioning with emphasis on measurement precision and accuracy. Working knowledge of switch-mode power supply topology and operation. Fluency in C-language software for embedded microcontrollers. Fluency in C-language software for PCs used in data acquisition systems. Familiarity with common digital serial communication bus protocols. Knowledge of analog-to-digital converter operation and performance limitations. Strong measurement and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred skills:
Working knowledge of three-phase brushless motor drives
Experience with radio frequency telemetry or wireless communication electronics
Circuit simulation (P-SPICE), Mathematical data processing (Matlab), Schematic design (Orcad Capture), PCB layout tools (PADS).
